How to Take Your Favorite Look from the Big Screen to Your Closet: Red Sparrow

Thank you to Goodwill Southern California for sponsoring this post.

Dressing like your favorite celebrity has never been easier or more affordable! Today I’m sharing tips for taking your favorite looks from the big screen to your closet, without breaking the bank.

First, let’s chat about today’s style inspiration. This is an outfit Jennifer Lawrence wears in the upcoming film, Red Sparrow (which I’m beyond excited to see! Also, does the Red Sparrow story remind anyone else of the Black Window story?).

Before Shopping

Before heading to your local Goodwill, it’s important to have an inspiration photo for reference. It’ll make it easier to find the right pieces.

Break Down the Look

Next, make note of what’s most prominent about the overall look.

For this photo, the minimal color palette and tan coat stand out the most so you’ll want to focus on making sure your outfit also has those same elements.

Where to Shop

Wondering where to shop?

Instead of hitting the mall, check out your local Goodwill for budget-friendly finds! Plus, shopping there helps support the community programs & services they provide!

I also recommend looking through your own closet before heading out to shop.

Be Open Minded

Once you make it to the store, remember to be open to unexpected options and ideas.

For example, instead of black slacks (which aren’t very flattering on me), I opted for a cropped pair of black jeggings.

The goal is not to create the EXACT same outfit. You’re just using the look as inspiration to create something that works for your body and life. I’ll likely wear this outfit to work so I wanted it to be comfortable, professional, and flattering.

Show Off Your Movie Inspired Look

The final step is easy! It’s time to show off your new look.

That jacket was an almost perfect match!! I’ve seen a few other bloggers use Goodwill to perfect their casual cosplay outfits – it seems like a godsend! We don’t really have shops like that in England annoyingly. It’s usually either charity shops which are generally filled with little old lady clothes, or Vintage shops – where the selection is kind of expensive. When I’m next in America I am totally stocking up on outfits.

Hi Emma! I had no idea that England didn’t have shops like Goodwill. Thrift stores here are such a great place for cosplay, Halloween costumes, and even the occasional super cool vintage find. Also, your blog is awesome! TTY again soon! πŸ™‚

Doesn’t it feel great to create a look for less from the thrift store? It’s also more environmentally friendly since it’s old clothes being re-used again! Thanks for the love πŸ™‚
